During my holiday I passed through Bergen, and had time for a small walk to check out some of the street art in the city. Bergen has become the hotspot for street art in Norway, and is frequently visited by international artists.
In 2000 Banksy visited Bergen with a friend, who was considering signing up a new norwegian band to his label. Banksy didn’t like the band, but the friend singed them up anyway. The band was Röyksopp….
During his trip to Bergen, Banksy decorated the city with 5 or 6 pieces. He also gave six works to the people he was staying with. Two of them were later sold at Sotheby’s for around £150,000 each. To a norwegian newspaper Banksy said about his trip to Bergen: “I should really visit lots of small towns instead of the big cities. The works have greater meaning there.”
In my short walk in Bergen I got to see works by local artists such as Dolk, Pøbel and MIR, and international artists like C215 and M-City.
